Breaking The Waves

This weeks feature on

Band:
Temerus

Location:
Plymouth, UK

The South West hasn’t exactly been known as a breeding ground of metal. Indeed, only PJ Harvey and long-forgotten post-hardcore foursome Kids Near Water hail from our bottom left corner. However, Plymouth based Temerus are here to change all that. Their demo CD (available here) show cases not only their love of In Flames and Dark Tranquility, but all their deft way with a crunchy Killswitch Engage breakdown and the odd tinkly keyboard.  And also, according to bassist Gareth “we have a ginger vocalist”.

On a more serious note, as guitarist and vocalist Tim notes: “I’ve always described us as melodic metal, with a bit of progressiveness thrown in there as well. We mix the heaviness of modern metal with the melodies of more popular music, but we like to use abnormal song structures as well to make things a bit different.” And for a band that’s been together scarcely a year – April will see their one year anniversary – but as their demo shows, they have a truckload of talent under their belts. As well as harmonies: as well as Tim, Gareth and rhythm guitarist John also step up to the mike for a 3 way vocal attack, it’s only a matter of time before drummer Elias joins in the fun.

Speaking of fun, the band are also touring so get your arse down to the following shows, where as Tim says “We’re not ones to mess around with stage outfits, we concentrate on playing songs that we hope people will love as much as we do”. The dates are:
Junction Underground, Plymouth – February 15th
The Famous Ship, Exmouth – February 16th
Surface Festival @ The Thunderbolt, Bristol – February 17th
