Valkyrja formed back in 2004 and this is the band’s second album, the line-up includes two members of another Stockholm based band Ondskapt and like them this is very straight to the point black metal but on the whole at a faster pace that the aforementioned.
‘Contamination’ is an album that seems to improve on each listen, ‘Laments Of The Destroyed’ is probably the catchiest track on offer and has a really immense main riff and some incredibly solemn sounding guitars that keep adding new and darker dimensions at each moment.
Without sounding at all like a carbon copy, this album is in a similar vein to earlier Watain albums both in the overall tone and a very controlled song structure. There is a definite sense of maturity on display rather than it just being about playing faster humanly possible, there is real depth to the songs and real feelings of anger and pessimism conveyed!
There are really a number of stand out tracks on this release and these manage to take things to a slightly higher plane, especially towards the final two tracks which are just superbly crafted and the only way to fill the void when it finishes is to listen to it again
