Swedish death metal band, Impious, are back with their sixth full-length studio album, 'Death Domination'. Filled with ‘manly’ growls and mechanically thunderous drum patterns; they have managed to squeeze themselves back in to the wall of the unrecognisable. Disguising their previously criticised ‘melodeath’ sound, they are now just ‘another band’ to add to the generic death metal list. On the plus side, this is probably why they are so popular.

Hiding their ‘melodeath’ routes has not only made it seem as if Impious want to be the loudest and most aggressive band on the planet, but want to only make music that will please their critics. Getting rid of their somewhat melodic side has left them with 10 tracks of mediocre death metal. Despite each track following the same structure and sounding relatively the same, the most recognisable track is ‘And the Empire Shall Fall’. Not only is this the longest track on the album, but shares advancement in structure, tempo and feel. It is more sophisticated and shows what Impious are capable of doing. If only there were more tracks like this on 'Death Domination', it would certainly be more than your average album.

This is in no way revolutionary. However, they do play this brand of death metal well. Therefore it is still worth at least a couple of listens.
