Nargaroth
Nargaroth - Jahreszeiten

1.    Prolog
2.    Frühling
3.    Sommer
4.    Herbst
5.    Winter

Black metal’s universal joke Nargaroth release their sixth full-length release, entitled ‘Jahreszeiten’. Having evolved in abundance since their break-through sophomore album ‘Black Metal ist Krieg’, main man Ash (formerly dubbed Kanwulf) has remarkably varied the music of Nargaroth with intriguing results that honestly shows up ’Black Metal Ist Krieg’ as the redundant and uninspired release it is.

The album consists of four lengthy tracks, opening with a spoken introduction. Apparently someone told Ash to lighten the fuck up because ‘Frühling’ commences with an upbeat guitar melody written in a major key, followed by organic black metal riffs. ‘Sommer’ sounds akin to Kampfar with its melodies but sounds less accomplished than their Norwegians counterparts.
‘Herbst’ is the longest song at over sixteen minutes and comes across as disjointed, as if numerous songs have been thrown together for the sake of having such a lengthy number. ‘Winter’ is by far the weakest track of the album, alternating between early-Satyricon and melancholic black metal with just an unseen groove-laden moment recommending it. Otherwise Ash has truly stepped up his game and produced an album with a throng of unpredictable intricacies and sustained maturity.
