Johan Voy Roy shrouded himself in the moniker of Suicide Commando in 1986 and looking over the expansive lists of compilation albums, anger-drenched singles and early cassette tapes which brandish this almost household-name like a banner, this is the Belgian’s 14th dancefloor-onslaught and shows that over 20 years on, he is showing no signs of relenting in what he does best.
Armed with chain-gun arpeggiators, nerve-raw vocals and melodic hooks so barbed they sting, Implements of Hell edges closely to a modern and popular EBM-sound and at times ventures into the realms of power-noise. Taking past tracks such as ‘Torment Me,’ and ‘Menschenfresser (Eat Me),’ into obvious consideration, ‘The Pleasure of Sin,’ and ‘Die Motherfucker Die,’ show clear, and crushing evolution into the demon that Implements of Hell has become.
Brushing shoulders with up and coming EBM-acts such as Panic Lift and Nurzery Rhymes, Suicide Commando has excelled himself in showing that there is a reason that he is at the forefront of the sound, and that he isn’t going to be knocked from his perch any time soon.
