After an impressively warm welcome into the hard rock scene; Year Long Disaster had a mammoth task to exceed their debut. With their release, ‘Black Magic; All Mysteries Revealed’ they have certainly prevailed and transpire as far more than a pretty line up or one trick pony – they’ve suitably outdone themselves.
Adopting a more creative approach to this album, Daniel Davies chose to ‘loosely’ drive the album towards his interpretation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s classic novel, ‘Master and Margarita’. With captivating riffs permeating every track, and an entrancing fusion of psychedelic progression, funk and rock ‘n’ roll – YLD have captured the bewitching essence of the novel, and the result is an album boasting maturity; proving to be an extension to the potential that this band undoubtedly have.
Tracks ‘Love Like Blood’, ‘She Told Us All’ and ‘Foggy Bottom’ show how multi faceted this band are, revealing a world of depth. ‘Black Magic...’ leaves a delicious curiosity, it’s refreshing and promising.
