Do not be fooled by Aeon’s Swedish origin and expect something melodic as this third instalment is a brutal as all their others previous. ‘Path Of Fire’ may tick all the boxes for a  brutal death concoction but this does not mean its overly generic by any means. Admittedly, at times the Anti-Christian lyrics get a little cheesy, but the drums eviscerate through each song, blastbeats powerful enough to worry veterans such as Deicide.

Every song is as vicious as the next, but by the end of the album the tracks tend to blend together. Aeon clearly have enough talent to keep an intense speed and you can tell that when they reach a more mid-tempo pace, they’re desperate to tear out some more savage riffs.

Of course, who can say this is a negative for a band, whose main aim is, quite frankly to be as blasphemous and blood-splattering as the it’s competitors, and with tracks like ‘I Will Burn’, which has that groovy complexity that can keep you entwined in the wrath of Aeon.

Compared to their previous albums, ‘Path Of Fire’ is not as organic as the band said it would be, with the drums and guitars over powering the bass at times; perhaps due to the fact it was produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel).

Either way this album is strong and fierce and certainly not an embarrassment for the Anti-Christian squad, however ‘Path of Fire’ is by no means an essential album, and more a filler for the gap in your CD collection.
