Integrity have relished cult status for over two decades; emphatic and ruthless, they remain a true relic in a now diluted Metalcore scene. ‘The Blackest Curse’ is yet another reminder of the sheer audacious energy this band emanates.
As expected, the album is saturated in raw, gritty production; yet alongside this, it gradually unveils tremendous layers, oscillating from frantic tempos, to brooding atmospheric tracks that marry impeccably with their typical short bursts of fury. Eight minute ‘Before The World Was Young’ is an effigy of the menacing delivery Integrity are capable of. Dwid’s haunting, raspy whispers open the track, set against a gentle acoustic which eases you in, then builds a tense atmosphere that progresses, post-metallic; culminating in wailing riffs, thundering battery and echoing, guttural growls.
Laden with immaculate beat downs, (take ‘The Last Great Seance’ for example), the odd Slayeresque riff and throat destroying vocals, Integrity are back, armed with the undeniable ability to convey emotionally charged Metalcore as it should be. Integrity prove relentlessly that they will remain unmatched, and have perhaps delivered one of the strongest, most solid albums released this year, thus far.
