Altar Of Plagues - White Tomb

Earth: As A Womb
Earth: As A Furnace
Through The Collapse: Watchers Restrained
Through The Collapse: Gentian Truth

Released last year to much acclaim and now re-released on Candlelight, 'White Tomb' is something of sheer astounding beauty. Regardless of comparisons to the likes of Wolves In The Throne Room et al, 'White Tomb' places AOP matchless and eminent; after all its not often enough that an album manages to encourage a deep breath, a widening of the eyes and a bemused tingle; all in arrant respect of brilliance.

Opening track ‘As a Womb’ is unyielding; hooking and hauling you into the feral undergrowth that fiercely unravels thereafter as it bears its brutal teeth, and yet leaves a profoundly epic sense of awareness, that transcends towards the dark, frenzied, apocalyptic atmosphere that 'White Tomb' creates.

As you delve into ‘As a Furnace’ you’re plunged further still into the belly of this beast, as the demonic growl’s of Dave Condon create a storm that unites emphatically with the wild, thundering drums and riffs that resonate into the immediately crushing ‘Watchers Restrained’. Leaving little time to digest what’s happening, closing track ‘Gentian Truth’ slowly builds to an impeccable and climatic rush of brooding guitars, progressing to a transient finish.

'White Tomb' emerges as an organic journey through oppressive tensions, brooding atmospheres and supreme elations, leaving a stunned listener - already waiting to press play as soon as the last note hits.
