It has to be said that Lightning Swords of Death is an awesome name for a band; it sounds like a weapon from a role-playing game and a good one at that! But this is no game, this is a blackened thrash band from California that have delivered a second full length release.

The album has a deliberate ‘rough around the edges’ feel to it which gives it a dark and dirty sound which matches the style perfectly, that being a slightly chaotic black metal style with hints of thrash about it. However, are touches of doom about the mix too; an interesting element.

Whereas the music is good, there is nothing particularly unique about this album, which would put it apart from any of the other bands around at the moment, but it would most likely please fans of bands such as Aura Noir or Destroyer 666. It is a formula that works so if it isn’t broken why fix it? But something just slightly more original being conjured up could make this band great.

‘The Extra Dimensional Wound’ could prove to be the stepping-stone this band needs to get noticed in the scene and it is definitely a ‘watch this space’ as they have the potential to go a long way.
