AUTO-AUTO – DANCING THROUGH THE DARK TIMES (7)

A bit of Swedish electronic based music here but ‘Dancing Through the Dark Times’ doesn’t particularly fit neatly into any category, which is always refreshing.

Things start off pretty chilled on the whole – a mixture of trance-like beats and a few samples.  Things soon hit a more regular song structure and you can clearly hear influences of the likes of Kraftwerk, Soft Cell and even Erasure!

There are some more techno-inspired tunes such as ‘Our New Machine’.  The vocals are very serious in that Depeche Mode way, but without the hint of a Swedish accent!  It also has a bit of a general 80s dance feel to it, not to mention being monstrously catchy.  The style does vary quite a bit.  ‘Cosmic Injustice’ sounds a bit like an old Nintendo game at times, but it’s possibly intentional! ‘Der Club Mix’ is not only brilliantly named but probably the only track verging on being really edgy, as it has a deeper sound, harsh vocals and it is definitely the time to get the glow sticks out at this point.

Pretty much all of this would go down a storm in goth clubs as everything is geared up to get people dancing.  There are no tracks with any ‘banging choons’ or anything like that – it’s all quite upbeat and likely to attract quite a following if listened to by the right people.
