DARK ETERNITY - SELENIA (7)
‘Selenia’ is the debut album from these young Spaniards. After a few demos and a name change, this album is the birth of a new era for the band.
From the off it's easy to see why they have been tagged with the ‘melodic death metal’ title as there is the Scandinavian influence in there. Think along the lines of Arch Enemy and co. Guitar wise, those the solos have a more traditional metal feel to them so it’s nice to hear some technical skill shining through.
‘Before the Dawn’ really stands out as there are some quality moments that hook you in more so perhaps than other tracks. A real plus point (depending on your point of view) is the complete lack of American-styled, clean vocals which could easily have been slotted in to make it ‘emotional’. It’s a welcome omission!
The quality of the recording itself is surprisingly good for a first release, which goes to show they have worked hard to get this right first time. A very strong debut from these lads who will hopefully be getting themselves on the road to get some more attention, which they rightly deserve.
