AN AUTUMN FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN – EVERYTHING (7)

With a cold chill back in the season’s air, An Autumn for Crippled Children mark their return with sophomore album ‘Everything’.  The post-black metal outfit pick up more or less where they left off with last year's debut ‘Lost’.  Bleak, desolate and aptly dark, AAFCC delve deeper into their melancholic mindsets with sights set on pure misery.  The trio excel at tugging on the heart strings of the listener, successfully emulating feelings of pain and loss to the extent where it's almost shameless.

While ‘Everything’ works very well in its conception, there is a small concern left that many of the tracks haven’t been given enough time to fully develop to a satisfying conclusion.  More often than not, tracks feel rushed through and layers are thrust upon the listener rather than built up naturally.  Some could credit this as the band trying to create discomfort for the listener, but a lot of the time songs feel overly hasted – time could have easily been taken to expand further.  That’s not to say the album in general suffers.  There are still moments of brilliance where the band stares into the mouth of madness and with patience, these moments unveil themselves in spades.
