AMDUSCIA - DEATH, THOU SHALT DIE (7)
With the death of Edgar Acevedo after his battle with leukaemia in 2010, the completion of the outfit’s fourth album fell into uncertainty. Using Acevedo’s legacy of electronic wizardry as a crux, the brave decision was taken to complete 'Death, Thou Shalt Die' in his memory. Compacting the aggression and bursting with the same club-compatibility that sizzled in the act’s debut, 'Death...' was one of the bittersweet cherries that topped a highly successful year for alternative music.
Although completed in Acevedo's memory, any sense of sentiment has been pushed aside. This musical militia takes hostility and violence and uses them antagonise and utterly berate your eardrums. ‘Fuck You Fucking Fuckers’ is an almost onomatopoeic stormer, with ‘How I Hate you’ tipping its hat to fellow Mexican noise-merchants that you can imagine laying waste to dance floors everywhere. Amduscia often lacked a certain something that caused past releases to slowly seep away into the ether, but 'Death...' seems to have sought it out and pushed it ruthlessly in to the red.
As mighty as this might be, over-production seems to have been to its detriment, with the album's immaculate studio finish fencing in Amduscia’s trademark aggression at times. Nevertheless 'Death...' is an astounding addition to a much respected legacy that seethes with the old school charm for which Amduscia have long been respected.
