It's a cloudy Saturday and in a dark corner of North London is The Gaff, a venue where it's always Halloween for some reason. Tonight this macabre and noisy tavern will host a band formed from Italy, Poland and Hungary, but still calls the UK it's home. Self described psychedelic post-doom pill shovelers, Obiat's new album 'Eye Tree Pi' has some interesting names surrounding it, namely Chris Fielding (Napalm Death, Electric Wizard) as producer and engineer, and Doom-overlord himself Billy Anderson (Melvins, High On Fire, Mr Bungle, and loads more..), and has received great acclaim.

Obiat take the stage having finished whatever rituals they partake in before playing this epic music, to a welcoming (if odd) bunch that makes up tonights crowd. Backed by psychedelic images projected onto the band you can tell what your about to witness is something special.

They don't disappoint, opening with a song coming in at epic length this really sets the tone for the evening - each song a mini journey within itself, mixing crushingly thick, heavy grooves of apocalyptic doom, with quieter, more atmospheric psychedelia, and back again.

Frontman, Laz takes the stage adorned in ceremonial robe with the image of a mystical shaman, his vocals more of an additional melodic instrument than a vehicle for some pointless lyrics nobody cares about anyway. That's the great thing about this band, their isn't a specific message or story for the songs, that's left up for the listener to decide for themselves.

Just as the band get into the swing of things, it becomes apparent that the curfew is approaching and Obiat must end, leaving the audience demanding more, not wanting the experience to end.
