Despite never attaining the same mass cult status that they occupy in the States, KISS’ UK fanbase has rarely been in doubt, and even if tonight is certainly not sold out, the fact that it was the second Wembley date announced with onsale dates around the same time as an AC/DC-led Download, such trivialities can be laid to rest for now. ‘Sonic Boom’ was a pleasantly surprising return to studio form for Gene, Paul et al, and a predictably spectacular entrance with new number ‘Modern Day Delilah’ - complete with the band arrive onstage via a giant metal swing - kicks things off nicely.

Those who’ve seen KISS before (and, to be fair, that category probably covers most of the crowd here) will largely know what to expect from these shows, but that doesn’t take away from what is, as ever, a brilliantly fun, theatrical and over the top event. Paul Stanley zipping over the crowd on an overhead wire during ‘I Was Made For Loving You’ and Gene Simmons’ trademark, blood-spitting shenanigans are inevitable highlights, but for many UK fans, the chance to finally see ‘Crazy Nights’ live is surely something to cherish on an evening of countless highs. Those hankering for Peter Criss and Ace Frehely need not bother - this is still KISS as KISS was always meant to be.
