Although Scottish lads Surgyn began playing to only handful of people tonight, their sometimes over-eager juxtaposition of aggro and early-90’s goth was not to their detriment. Simmering with enthusiasm, guts and glamour, Surgyn hit all the right notes for tonight’s crowd, right up to their foot-stomping conclusion.
The addition of Bristol locals Sinewinder to the roster was a brave stab at diversity. Unfortunately for this psytrance double-act, it was a case of wrong place, wrong crowd and wrong style. Not without their musical merit however, they show why they have been selected for bigger arenas all around the world, but again – not a great choice for tonight.
Being Uberbyte means being one of the most well-known EBM acts in the United Kingdom, thus, they fit the bill moreso than their previous counterpart. Coming with a following all of their own, their thud-a-minute, throttling assault came with all the trimmings right up to the obligatory filth of ‘Money Shot’.
It would be quite the task to ignore the annoyance of Daniel Graves from the mass of sound problems at the start of tonight’s set. Pushing this aside, there was enough personality and charm left from this energetic song-writer to carry us through the monster first track ‘A Nice Place to Live’, right through to the fury of post-encore ‘Spit it Out’. Being supports for bigger names already sealed Aesthetic Perfection’s reputation as a killer live act, but tonight has proved that even though the Tunnels showed no mercy is respect to sound quality, Graves' mind for a belting electronic tune translates beautifully into the live arena. Let's hope that next time we can meet under better circumstances. |
