After picking up an award for Best Breakthrough Artist at Metal Hammer's Golden Gods 2011, Sabaton return to London for a special one off show and their first in the UK this year.
It's fitting that label mates Hell join them for the show after having had a great year themselves with an acclaimed album riding high in many rock magazines end of year polls. It's all very silly but they are a treat to watch. Frontman David Bower is at his theatrical best and hugely entertaining throughout. The music is performed brilliantly too so they won't have done their growing reputation any harm at all.
Despite the stupidly early curfew, Sabaton still have a longer timeslot on a UK stage then they ever have before. The start is their typical intro followed by 'Ghost Division', 'Primo Victoria', '40:1' and 'Cliffs of Gallipoli', and the end is the usual 'Metal Ripper', 'Metal Machine' & 'Metal Crue' parodies. But between these, they are taking requests from 22 songs on their list. So loud are the audience that Joakim Brodén has to offer songs in choices of two, which all works very well until there is the choice of 'Final Solution' or 'Price of a Mile'. They can't please everyone, but both deserve an outing despite the latter winning the vote by a debatable measure. Nevertheless, Sabaton are playing their heart out and if ever there was a band that truly enjoy what they do then it's these guys. The show is nothing short of awesome and definitely a late contender for gig of the year, and as they take their final bow, a banner is displayed advertising a May 2012 release of next album 'Carolus Rex' making their return even more exciting.
